I love the Olympics, the spectacle of it all as athletes compete in multiple disciplines for the entertainment of the masses of all countries. Many sports are represented and many are not, I wonder why this is?
For many years squash has not been part of the Olympics, but it is set to return for 2028. It’s a rather boring sport yeah, but it is intense in a way that dressage isn’t, then some folks like to see a horse dancing, or somebody swinging around a fixed bar a few times before swinging off. That last one baffles me, Imagine if you were watching Tennis or football or cricket, you can tell who is winning by the score, or imagine you watch a fighting sport where you might have an idea of who will get the decision, but for gymnastics you could watch the whole thing and at the end you need someone to tell you why one athlete got 9 and another got 8, because you would have no idea otherwise who had done better.
A person could be the greatest footballer in the world, or the greatest runner over 100m, and everyone would know who they are. But somewhere out there there is the greatest tiddly winks player, the greatest cherry pip spitter, the greatest chilli eater, the greatest twister practitioner, and nobody knows the first thing about them, they get no adulation….
Ha, who cheers for the winkers???
