Philosophy, life and painful things. Let's go on a journey…….

Formed, by nitwits

I have a very basic rule I use when I create any type of user data gathering mechanism. If you make a method for others to input data into, and you then have to teach those people how to use it, or if you have to write more than a few lines to explain it, then you made a shit one and someone else should, and likely will, fix it.

In an episode of Blackadder (a UK comedy program) the campaigning potential prime minister Pitt declares in his manifesto that he intends to enact harsher punishments for geography teachers. I’m not sure why they would deserve a punishment, but I am tempted to speculate that they maybe were making the subject more complex than Pitt felt it needed to be. If I were elected to high office I might use my power to change a few things also, like punishing HR executives, accountants, and especially solicitors. Now am I against having these roles in principle? not at all, I believe everything they address are valuable parts of any society or business. We need laws in commerce, in business, and society, and of course we need a system of exchange. So what exactly is your beef Wilson?

These guys make things unnecessarily complicated in linguistic terms, they confuse deliberately, they obfuscate, they produce abstruse language so as to confuse the non academic, obscure the meanings, wrap the simple in the complicated, and they do it for their own sake. Let’s attack these muddafudgers for a bit more fun…

HR – these guys make the recruitment forms you have to fill in to get a job and they are almost always a flipping nightmare. For some reason they feel compelled to design their own form even though every role you apply for has need for almost the exact same information. Where you work now, where you worked then, your qualifications, and if you are allowed to work. For what seems to be no good reason at all they will send you, or let you download, either of two primary options, a word document that is formatted so badly you’d swear it was the maker’s first ever go, or a PDF that you can’t edit and have to print out. Occasionally they have a web form, one that will want a repetition of everything that’s on the CV you store on the well known website they advertised the job on. Applying for employment is a form of torture, and I think that may be deliberate, I expect these HR folks are mostly sadists, or maybe they are just doing administrative self justification (where admins make work so that they have work, a variation of Parkinson’s law).

Solicitors interpret the law on your behalf and then act on your behalf for an exorbitant fee. I spent over £7k to get divorced in 2018 and my solicitor was not worth a cardboard cut out of a solicitor. I ended up with an outcome that was worse than my initial position looked like it should be, and I actually harboured quite a lot of hope that I might come out well since I was the one that had been already robbed and made foolish in the marriage. I was able to prove that my ex wife had put zero value into my property which she had lived in for free for 8 years, I was able to prove that she had mislead me over her finances, I was able to prove that I had cleared her previous debts, and I could also prove that she had been financially reckless. She admitted cheating and abandonment, yet I still had to give her quite a wedge as some sort of a payoff, and had to sell my house to gather the money up to do so. I swore at the end of my dealings that my solicitor must have been working for the opposition!

Accountants, these guys mainly make money by making sure the people who actually hold capital, money, or resources, have multiple avenues available to avoiding paying their fair or mandated share to the state and by implication the stakeholder in the state that they use to produce and perpetuate their wealth. I think personally that these actions should be criminal, not purchasable. I don’t have an accountant, and unless you are wealthy, or self employed, you likely don’t have one either. These guys are the lowest of the low, they make money by charging a £1 for every £3 they can keep away from the folks that deserve or have the right to have it.

Latest rant over, I enjoyed getting it out …
